Canada is one of the largest countries in the world and is known to have vast and disperse territory. The country is organized into 10 provinces and 3 territories. Although Canada has a federal act that sets out mandates for universal healthcare, each province has a separate health plan for its residents and each plan is different. It is important to understand the individual requirements of each province and territory when it comes to seeking medical coverage. Some provinces will have waiting lists of 90 days to a few years to gain access to the healthcare provided there. We have provided an introductory list of hospitals and clinics in Canada, organized by province, to facilitate your search in finding appropriate care. Please note that there are many more hospitals and clinics in Canada, and this is simply a guideline to aid the process.

We have put together a listing of the major hospitals and clinics by region for expatriates and international travellers. Note that we do not list all the hospitals and doctors that are available to expats, just a listing of up to five hospitals per country. In some countries where there are simply hundreds or thousands of hospitals and clinics, we will refer you to your international health insurance provider, embassy list or recommend a Google search. Note that we do not recommend or vouch for these medical clinics or hospitals, but are only providing a partial list of a few key medical centres that we have gathered to assist people living abroad. We strongly recommend that everyone follow their doctor’s advice and not delay obtaining medical assistance.
