It is specially designed to provide income replacement protection for individual expatriates around much of the world. This plan is part of William Russell’s Global Protection plan range, which also offers Global Life and Accident insurance. Read more about William Russell by clicking here.
The protection plans that William Russell Limited offers are not available to local nationals or to expatriates living in Iran, North Korea, Libya, South Sudan, Syria, Switzerland or Yemen. William Russell Limited is also unable to offer cover for new clients who are resident in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Comoros, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Togo or USA.
Expats from the USA residing in another country are eligible to apply if they can provide proof that they live abroad. - You may be able cover up to 75% of your annual income with an overall maximum of US$144,000 for individual clients and up to $200,000 per member for group plans.
- William Russell also offers Global Life and Accident Insurance.
- Benefits and premiums can be paid in Pounds Sterling (£), Euros (€) or US Dollars ($).
- When you apply you choose when you would like the benefit to begin to be paid during a claim (3- or 6-month waiting period), and how much cover you require.
- Cover continues right through to age 65, normal retirement date, if earlier, recovery, or on your return to work. Subject to William Russell’s plan agreement.
- In the event of a valid and approved claim, your benefit payments will increase by 2% compound annually.
- Once the plan is in force, if you return to your home country of citizenship you may be able to continue to renew your cover provided that the local laws in your country permit you to do so, and provided that cover is available in that country. Note that coverage can’t be continued if you move to the USA or Canada.
- Benefit payments are made monthly once you have been off work for your chosen waiting period.
- Premiums are age banded and will increase on annual renewal.
- If your inability to work lasts more than 24 months, page 8 and onwards of the Global Income Protection plan agreement requires proof of you being unable to return to any form of gainful activity for which training, education and experience would qualify you. If this is the case, benefits will continue to be paid until you are able to return to work, you reach age 65, or upon death (whichever is soonest).
Please review the full plan terms and conditions as these will govern.
William Russell cannot consider an application for a Global Protection plan if you are resident in any country or region that the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office has advised its citizens to leave or has advised against all travel to, or has advised against all but essential travel to (note that this list is subject to change at any time without notice), or if you are resident in any of the following countries or areas. Also, if your country of residence changes to one of the excluded countries listed below, before the commencement of your plan, William Russell Limited will be unable to offer cover:
Iran, North Korea, Libya, South Sudan, Syria, Switzerland, Venezuela (health only) and Yemen.
William Russell Limited is unable to provide any cover if you are living in, or planning to move to, an Excluded country. If you move to one of these countries, they will be unable to cover you
Temporary trips to an Excluded or Restricted Country or Region
They are also unable to provide plans where the policyholder is resident in a ‘Restricted country’.
Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Comoros, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Senegal, USA and Togo.
If you are considering a group plan, and an employee is resident in one of these Restricted countries but the policyholder (the employer) is in a country which is not listed as excluded or restricted, the employee will be able to be included within the group plan. For example, if an employee on a group plan is resident in a Restricted country like Benin, but the company & therefore policyholder is in a country like China, which is not an Excluded or Restricted country, the employee can be included on the plan. However, if the employee in the same example was resident in Iran cover would not be possible as this is an Excluded country. Once you have taken a plan out, if you move to a Restricted country you may be able to continue to renew your plan other than US nationals who return to the USA (where cover would cease at your next renewal).
Temporary trips to an Excluded or Restricted Country or Region
If you are travelling temporarily in Switzerland, or in a Restricted country you will be covered by the plan in full unless it is a country or region that the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised its citizens to leave, or has advised against all travel to, or has advised against all but essential travel to. If the country is on the FCO travel advice list, there is no cover for disablement arising from the following events, even if you are an innocent bystander:
• Assault of any kind
• Any other act of violence
You can check the current advice offered by the FCO about a specific country or region at the following web address: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/.
There is no cover at all for disablement if you are in Iran, North Korea, Libya, South Sudan, Syria or Yemen.
The plans from William Russell are not aimed at the US market and as such, it would be classed as a restricted country for clients on the Protection plans as we cannot provide cover where the policyholder is permanently in America but can cover employees who are based here where the policyholder is in another country provided the member is not a US national.
